Alisa Apps' first album is a story of the road to self identity, breaking out of the cage of other's enforcements and learning to fight for what you really care for.
The Album opens with the Song "Confusion".
An in your face type of song about the confusion many of us find ourselves in. Who do you trust? What is real? The chorus "Confusion, you drive me crazy, is it no or yeah? Or do you not know or care?" The search for certainty.
Can't Stop
How do you survive a devastating breakup?
"the last time I heard your voice, was the last time, the last time I felt, ...
You tore my soul open.
I gave you all of me."
How do you rebuild yourself?
Imagine these words hooked up to a fun melody and you get an
hint of "Can't Stop".
What happens when you do meet your soul mate?
That magical moment, are you ready to receive this
gift from God? "Something's Happening to Me"
captures those first feelings.
The brash "A Simple Life" talks of the will to win,
not to be defeated by all the falsity around you.
Just be who you are!
The ballad "Running on Empty" goes to the depths of the
abyss yet ends on a note of determination to not lose.
Exhausted and burnt, yet insistent on finding the strength
to keep on going.
"Need to Know" starts with the victim being played with,
tricked and manipulated, Then the victim decides NO MORE!
I will turn things around,
I will wind up on top.
How do you find the courage to let go sexually, to open
up and trust? "I'm falling" explores that, asking to find
her way back home, to let go of the fear.
"let's tear you open and see what's broken" a line from
"Everybody's in" talks of the selfishness of our times,
daring the listener to hear and care.
In "Hey Mama", Alisa digs deep into her relationship with
her mother, dealing with the lack of warmth and understanding
"I opened the door, you snatched the key" says it all.
So Who is Alisa Apps and what does she stand for?
Yes, the camera loves her;
while her voice and techniques reflect the training and work she's put into developing her talent.
And yes, she's sexy, but intelligently so.
There is someone behind the beautiful body, not only an intelligence but also an emotional honesty that connects.
Coming from a mixed religion background, she's certainly had her confusions and challenges to overcome.
Rejecting the formulas handed to her by family and society she fights to find her own self.
Empathic, she sees others, in a cage, seeing so few options that they are escaping into fantasies.
She has surely experienced the pain, and done her share of running away.
However, she seems to have found some wellspring of strength within, that has transformed her.
In her own words:
If I can reach out to those who feel alone and isolated,
to those who seek escape from the pain,
I want you to know
it's worth the fight.
Listen to my music and draw the courage to lift your head up.
I'm fighting for your right to have hope.
